Retiring to Australia

Post Posted: Wed Feb 17, 2010 7:55 pm

Hi everyone!!
I'm looking to move to Australia in the next few years as I cannot live in England anymore and see no future here for either myself or my eleven year old son. Having announced the move my parents (who are over 60) wish to come with me. They have both already retired and would mean that we all sell our houses and move out to Australia. The trouble is, the retirement visas have been stopped and every website I look at has something different on it! Some say they can move out for 4 years and then have their visa renewed, others say that as long as they can give the government $250,000 they can permanently stay in Aus and others that say they can't except if they already have a family memmber living in Aus (which we don't) Can anyone shed some light on this please?
Thank you

Hi Cazz,

Welcome to Expat Focus Very Happy to be honest I would suggest you contact the
Australian Govenments Department of Immigration directly view here

they also have a "VISA WIZARD" on their website which finds you the right Visa.

Please view here www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/

Good luck with your quest. Please, PLEASE let us know how you get on. Your feedback may help others. Very Happy

Kind Regards
Carole

Hi Cazz,
I have been in a similar situation as your parents and will be emigrating late next year.
I would suggest that you investigate the 'Parental Visa' or Contributory Parental Visa' schemes. (In brief if 50% plus of your offspring are permanent residents in OZ they may sponsor you).
It is not cheap but it works!
Hope that this helps,
Islandboy
