Immigration to Brazil.
Immigration to Brazil.
Posted: Mon Apr 16, 2007 9:18 pm
Greetings Everyone,
My name is Fernando; I am a middle aged male with a family and currently working as a professional Project Manager at one of South Africa's more revolutionary Internet Service Providers. I am also looking at the possibility of immigrating to Brazil.
As far as paperwork is concerned, I’ve got all this together and having a registered citizenship in Portugal and speaking the language at unpracticed levels, I have certain advantages towards immigration which I’d like to take.
I've been searching the web and visiting numerous expat communities to try and gather some sort of information about Brazil. As a project manager, one could appreciate my current state of gathering the information and exercising some sort of precision before undertaking such a bold move.
It’s also not a matter of I want to leave South Africa, it’s a matter of I would like to go to Brazil.
This is seemingly the most up to date or active expat community I’ve found and a “big up†to the creator of this one. However, information is still sketchy to say the least on the topic of Brazil. From what I’ve read, people immigrate to Brazil and they just disappear from these communities. Where discussions begin, they seem to end as soon as people indicate that they have left their home countries. This is, of course, with the exception of “David SR†A.K.A. CountryBoy, who reported his successful landing for refeuling at Las Palmas – Tocantins, and this was over a month ago.
Now, in aid of trying to ascertain if there are any successful immigrants to Brazil, this sort of thing doesn’t help, much. If there is anyone in this particular community that can shed some light on what to do to get employed as a professional (for starters) it would be a great help.
I’ve already discovered that wages are low and so are the opportunities, what I *am* failing to find is anything that exceeds being a barman or waiter in a restaurant. I’ve even tried to make contact with Telemar (Brazil’s largest Telecoms provider) to get some sort of information on employment and here I sit, two weeks later, still pondering.
I am really looking forward to meeting someone that can shed some informative light on the subject.
Until then, have a good one everyone.

Hello fmendes,
Welcome to Expat Focus, I am pleased that you find these forums full and active, we try to make everyone feel at home here. My wife and I are planning to move out to Brazil just as soon as we sell our house in Spain.
We have visited the country twice the first time in June 2006 and ther second time in January 2007 to make sure that this is the country we would like to fininsh our wandering in. There are only three ways you can enter Brazil and settle there.
The First is to marry a Brizillian subject, the Second is to be retired and have an income of more than $2,000 a month the third is an Investment Visa. We hope to go on an Investment Visa.
This just means that we buy a house as an Investment and move to the country, there are a few more in's and out's to this but nothing too daunting for you to worry about. If you need more information let me know.

Hey David!
Thanks for all the nfo. I wish you all the best when there. I have encountered all your advice thus far and am working around it. Seems like my Portuguese citizenship will come in handy here as I will only need 1 year of residence to naturalize. Thanks to my ancestors
I seem to be on the right track with my current initiative of "its not what you know, its who you know" and have made quite a few friends there who are looking out for a reason to provide me with a work permit. It seems that by the end of the year i might be moving along to Brazil after all.
It would be interesting to meet you at some point in time, please keep in touch and we'll speak again.
Best regards
Fernando Mendes

"It seems that by the end of the year I might be moving along to Brazil after all."
Irritating isn’t? Is there a happy ending to this tale? Did our intrepid hero land in Brazil, work permit in hand? I prefer to think that he made it and is somewhere gazing into a Brazilian’s brown eyes and too much in love to find an internet café to let us know. A lot of gringos go astray in South America. [Just kidding!]
Keep chasing that rainbow.
