Women's clothing in Dubai - shopping advice please
Women's clothing in Dubai - shopping advice please
Posted: Thu Aug 09, 2007 3:30 pm
Hi everyone,
I'm going to be in Dubai on business for a few days next month, and I'm hoping to have time for one quick shopping trip. Any advice on which mall to go to would be much appreciated, because I've never been to Dubai before and won't have time to try several different places.
The clothing I'm looking for might not be what most expats have experience buying, but I'd appreciate suggestions all the same! I need two kinds of clothes:
1) Women's abayas, both black and coloured, but NOT the fancy ones that go for $1000 each. The quality that Egyptians workers bring as gifts for their families back home when they come back from the UAE on vacation, in case that means anything to anyone! I'll need to stock up on a lot of these, and I'm hoping not to spend much more than Dh130 on each one. If that's completely unrealistic, please let me know. Maybe the fancy malls aren't the right place to go for these? I speak Arabic so I should be able to navigate my way around less expat-oriented areas if necessary.
2) this one is really tricky: I need Muslim women's business-wear, with fashions that wouldn't look out of place in the US. Long skirts, long tops, and matching scarves would be ideal. Any ideas?
Thanks, I really appreciate any suggestions!

Hi,
I would suggest going to the textile souk in Bur Dubai/Deira and get all these items made. There are plenty of tailors with great material who can make these items very fast and less expensive for you.

I agree...there are also shops in Naif for ready made Abayas and Muslim clothes....Just wear comfy shoes because you have to walk around and explore the area.

Thanks for your answers, very helpful! I don't think I'll have time to get things tailor-made since I'll only have a few hours to spare this time, but I'll definitely keep it in mind for next time. And I'll go wandering around Naif and see what I can find
Thank you!
