Recommended restaurants in Holland?
Recommended restaurants in Holland?
Posted: Sat Apr 12, 2008 2:16 pm
Anyone care to share some recommendations for good restaurants? We always seem to end up going to the same old places - would be nice to hear of somewhere new!
Please don't feel restricted to Amsterdam or indeed the Randstad...anywhere in Holland will do

Hi Jamie,
A good restaurant is a matter of taste and is often very personal. Here is my choice:
- Pizza Hut, Noordeinde in Den Haag (they have lovely taco-pizza). Pizza Hut has also locations in other cities.
- Tex Mex (Mexican Restaurant), Gevers Deynootplein in Scheveningen (near Den Haag)
- Brasserie Babillage, Muzenplein, Den Haag
- Bosch en Duin in Udenhout (Noord-Brabant)- street: Oude Bosschebaan 1. This restaurant has a famous "Udenhoutse Broeder", a kind of apple pie with cinnamon. It is an old, local specialty. Bosch en Duin is situated in de so called "Loonse en Drunese duinen" (inland dunes, remains of the ice age) which is very attractive to people who like to walk there (or horse riders or cyclists).
- Pannekoekenboerderij Meijendel ("pancake farm Meijendel") in Wassenaar. See www.meyendel.nl/ (Dutch only). Situated in the dunes and attractive for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. Nice garden/terrace in the summer.
Regards,
Agnes

Hi Agnes,
Thanks for those (think I'll sticky this thread so we can collect a few more!)
I wonder if the Pizza Hut in Noordeinde is the same as those in the UK? I went to the one in Amsterdam (Leidseplein) when I first came over and it was completely different - much to my disappointment

Nearly forgot to add one of my own favourites:
Name: Pathum Thai Restaurant
Location: Willemsstraat 16, Jordaan, Amsterdam
Reservations: +31 (0)20 6244936
This is my favourite Thai restaurant in Amsterdam - the food is delicious and the service superb. Family run, the restaurant is small but cosy and the kitchen can be seen from the main part of the restaurant. Delicious food, very reasonable prices and genuinely friendly service - highly recommended. The staff speak English, Dutch and, of course, Thai.

Hi Jamie,
There is this superb greek restaurant in S'Hertogenbosch (or Den Bosch as the dutch like to call it). Went there a few times when working in Drunen for a couple of months for the company I was with at the time. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the restaurant (this was 6 years ago!
) but I can tell you that it's only a few feet away from the Best Western Hotel. Should be easy to find once you are at the hotel. Sorry I couldn't be more useful but I really believe you should give this restaurant a go if ever in the area.

Me again! Should have thought of doing this before, but I looked up Den Bosch online and found the restaurant I was telling you about. As soon as I saw the name it was like 'Oh yeah, that was it!' lol
Anyhow, the info is as follows:
Grieks restaurant Rhodos
Kerkstraat 87
T 31 (0)73 613 22 13
www.restaurant-rhodos.com
'The oldest Greek restaurant in
's-Hertogenbosch!'

Thanks a lot Silvers, we'll definitely give that a go next time we're in Den Bosch (even if there's only two veggie main dishes!)
