Moving to Khobar

Post Posted: Tue Jun 10, 2008 5:36 pm

We're ecuadorian living in lebanon for 7 years and now we are moving to khboar,to work in a new company, my husband is going first, the 2 douthers and me after. I'm very nervous, for the schools, the live there, if we can save money.
The company offers salary, bonus, house but outside the compound, car, cel................the school and food we'll pay.
Now im worry because in lebanon the people said to us, don't go there, if u don't go in a compound dont go, is not nice, u cant work there, no drive, no walking is like a prision. I want to work part time if i can. The new boss of my husband offers me to find a job for me.
Thats why i'm trying here to be less worry.

U can find work...lots of women work and usually work will provide u a pick and drop facility

khobar is a nice place and the easiest place 2 live i think for an expat

u cannot drive but once u see the mad saudi driving u will be thankful !!!

compound life is fine and there are a lot of compounds to chose from

dont worry

there are excellent International Schools and usually the salary + bonuses and benefits are very good if u work in saudi so i am sure u will save money as well

cost of living is cheap in saudi compared to other places

And my mother she wants to come with us, but the boss of my husband told me, when i go to khobar i can invite her, before she cant go. this is true?
Live there is like lebanon?? We can find internet,TV cable, dvd to watch, because in lebanon say everything is prohibited.
Sorry for keep asking...........Thancks again.

your mother cannot come until u r both settled in saudia arabia and you and your husband sponsor her visit

a woman cannot enter saudi arabia unless she is either accompanied by a male relative or sponsored by a close male relative

so this is true, once you are there u can invite your mother 2 come in

yes u can find cable networks.... we live in khobar and have showtime which is excellent

www.showtimearabia.com

orbit cable tv is also available but i dont think the channels are as good as what showtime offer

u can find showtime offices in Dhahran Mall and Rashid Mall ( i am sure your husband will know these malls )

u can get DVDs there in fact i have heard there is a guy who even sells cheap DVDs somewhere (i have yet to find out if this is true)
but in Jarir bookstore there is a wide collection of DVDs so dont worry

when u travel into saudi do not take any DVDs with u as they will probably confiscate them at immigration
delete any pics of yr pc (if u have a laptop) that maybe sensitive or offensive

do not try and take any religious material in2 Saudi .... if it is not Islamic they will not approve !

hope this helps u

Good Luck

i am hopefully returning 2 saudi arabia after being away from my husband for 3 months ! i shud be back on sun as fri i fly in2 bahrain and then will spend a few days there b4 heading in2 saudi

:o)

thancks for the advise, my husband told me, the same like u. Now he is 1 week there and he said the live is a little difficult, the appartment is outside the compound, but everything is around, laundry, hairdresser, small hotels, furnished appartment. The house is near his work. Im waiting for the photos.
My husband is telling me about english school but only for girls, the schools are for muslams too, they teach religion?
I hope your return to damman will be good, 3 month vacation is fine, Im away from my husband 6 month, I came to ecuador to have my second dauther, but ours plans turn different, we see each other only 15 days and he went again to lebanon and after saudi.
You are from where? U have kids? Damman is near to khobar?
Take care, and good return to your home.

You are leaving in khobar now, how many years? My husband is in khobar 2 month, he doest have the akame, i dont know why is late, thats why i´m steel in ecuador, waiting. If you can help me about this, if this is normal.
Take care.
