New Members - Please Introduce Yourself Here

Post Posted: Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:45 pm

Hi,

I have just started this Topic as it would be nice if new members had the opportunity to introduce themselves.

For example
- Country of Origin
- Description of your Circumstances ie resident, looking to relocate etc
- Why you came to Portugal ie retired, better lifestyle for family, work etc

Introductions also give the Moderators and Existing members a chance to know a little about what has brought you here, and therefore how we may be of the most assistance.

We are a very friendly and supportive group with a good on line community. We enjoy sharing information or just to debate on a wide range of topics. You are also welcome to join in and raise different issues for debate.

We look forward to your input

Kind regards
Piglet

Hello out there ...

Post Posted: Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:00 am

Very Happy Helo, my name is Victoria and my username is Victoria1st as it is on some other forums when someone has had the audacity to take my name before me .... !!! Rolling Eyes

I am British but have lived in Canada and the United States. We first came to Portugal in 1984, bought our first property here in 1988, bought our current 'casa antiga' in 1997 and moved here in 2001 shortly after we took early retirement.

We have three cats .... a well-travelled 14 year old British male, a three-year old male we found abandoned at birth (who is a sandwich short of picnic at times) and more recently a 4 1/2 month old female also abandoned at birth .. we discovered her through this forum. I am also a semi-professional artist painting with acrylic on canvas and currently have some of my work on display at Rouxinol Restaurante in Caldas de Monchique (my website is in my Profile).

I love my garden but it is quite established now and takes care of itself for the most part. I belong to various gardening forums mainly dealing with indigenous species of tropicals/sub tropicals. I also love photography and use every opportunity to take photos of my cats, my plants, wildlife and this beautiful country I now call home.

So, in joining this forum I am looking to gain a little knowledge and hopefully give something back to the community.

Hi Victoria...and welcome!!

I also love gardening but as yet we are still trying to establish which plants will grow!! Some look soooo pretty at the garden centre...but they are doomed soon after planting by the salt winds. Crying or Very sad
If you are interested a group of us are getting together locally and forming a gardening group. Clube Horta Verde.

Its nice to see your comment "So, in joining this forum I am looking to gain a little knowledge and hopefully give something back to the community"

Please dont forget to enter our monthly photo competition...this months subject is PETS!!

Your are right when you say this country is beautiful!! we love it.

Kind regards
Piglet Cool

as many times a year as poss holidays and funding allowing.

I would love to know about the gardening group as it is one of my greatest hobbies at the moment trying to find out what is the best grass for a lawn also
where to buy a horse for futher ref as this is also a passion of mine.

I am married with two grown up sons and a grandson 1 horse 1 dog and two birds and live in Saffron Walden Eseex.

Hi Mrslady,

Welcome to the Portugal forum.
You are lucky to have your new home a couple of years before retirement, at least it will be nice to have time to sort everything out before you move out permanently

Your passion for gardening is shared by lots of our members Questions asked about lawns will be interesting as there are varying differences of opinion....I have found gardening here alot different to the UK.

Horses, lucky you. I wish I had never given up riding...Again ask lots of questions.

Just a quick tip re posting...Please make a separate post for each question topic...ie
gardening, horses, dogs etc etc it makes it so much easier for members to answer and keep track of...

kind regards
Piglet

Welcome from me too, mrslady. I am new to the forum and so far have already gained knowledge of all things Portuguese! Very Happy

I live near SB Messines and have passed through Ourique many times. I am sure you will enjoy living in this beautiful country as many of us do.

I am sorry I cannot help you regarding your intended lawn or horse purchase as I have neither although I am sure as Piglet says, if you put up individual questions those knowledgeable in such may be able to advise you.
