In all honesty I'm trying to think of some positives to write here but can't. I've absolutely loved this country since moving here a little over 18 months ago but but recently I've come to resent it a little. This is not a rant but rather an attempt to make people considering moving here more aware of what they're realisticaly likely to come up against, certainly in this region.
I would now only recommend someone moving here if they're retired or prepared to put up with aggrovasion and discrimination at every opportunity. We work and the system is absolutely corrupt. We're entitled to everything a Hungarian national is but are blocked every step of the way...one example is merely buying a mobile phone. My wife was told that her Hungarian citizenship would take a maximum of 3 months to complete due to her parents being Hungarian...10 months later and a lot of hassle and expense she finally received it.
Visit on holiday or retire here and it's a fantastic country but come here to work legitimately and integrate into the local society and it's very stressful

i am toshka and would like to make my presence known to this community.

Bought a place near Balaton to modernize. am moving there to start work on the place in June. Am almost retired but have small income to keep me going until i get my measly £98 in exchange for the barrel-load of tax i paid for 35 years. Lived in UK for 48 years and consider it my home but have hungarian provenance and luckily, speak the language .

So am reading this topic with great interest, wondering what joys and/or frustrations life will have for me june onwards as i start applying for permits, licenses, etc.
