Hi,

I am Mark recently moved to Luebeck in Northern Germany From Palma de Mallorca, where I have lived for the last 14 years. I am originally from the Manchester area of England. I am looking to make contact with other British people in the area, especially those with similar interests such as Sport & Music.

I would also like any advice that can be given regarding satelite dishes, (I.E. size required, direction etc.) needed for Sky +, I have a decoder & and card from the UK.

mANY THANKS

Hi Mark

Welcome to Expat Focus.

How are you settling in?

Regarding your question I would also like any advice that can be given regarding satelite dishes, (I.E. size required, direction etc.) needed for Sky +, I have a decoder & and card from the UK.

I think it would worth making a separate post.

Kind regards
Carole

Hi Carole,

Settling very well thank you but miss my British TV, especially the sport which I am forced to watch streamed through the internet, which I don't like very much at all. I have found a local British spoeaking community which have a regular stamtisch meeting every Thursday/

I have posted a separate thread regarding satelite dish etc. so lets hope it brings a bit of qualified response.

Where are you based?

Best regards,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Yes, I am sure my hubby would empathise with you. He could not survive without the Sport on TV. In fact the footie is on now Laughing We are based in Portugal our satelite dish is 1.3 but I understand they are now fitting 1.5
We found a company specialising in installing satelite dishes in our local paper
so they fitted the dish, rewired and tuned it all in.

I have found a local British spoeaking community which have a regular stamtisch meeting every Thursday/

I am intrigued what is a stamtisch meeting?

Kind regards
Carole

Hi Carole,

I was in Palma de Mallorca (Spain) for 14 years before I moved to Germany 4 weeks ago. In Mallorca we had a 1.65 dish. But here in Northern Germany there is not a big British community as in Spain or Portugal. I was in Lisburn for a couple of weeks for Euros in 2004 and liked the place very much.

A Stamtisch is German for a reserved table or area in a bar, we meet each week (I say that last week was my first meeting) where there is anything between 4 - 20 +, so it is in an area that can easily be expanded. Apparently there are now 100 members of this community group but mainly just English speaking not British Nationality (last week including me just 2 English, 1 Irish, 1 Yank, 1 Italian, 1 Kazak, 2 Romanians, 2 Germans plus a couple of others.

I am also watching the Liverpool game on internet which also shows goal flashes from Arsenal game, but its not my favorite way of viewing footie.

Regards,
Mark

Hi, sorry if I am not using this in the right way, however this is the first time I have logged on!

My name is Nikki and my fiance has moved to vaihingen, germany recently. I am hoping to join him sometime after we get married (in New York on 27th March this year). I do not speak the language so I am expecting it to be quite hard to find work, however I am currently doing some beauty courses (eyelash tinting, eyelash extenstions and threading) with the hope that I can work from home/be mobile to offer these services.

Failing that just after any help or advice from people living in the area! I am originally from Bristol in the UK, currently living and working in Southampton (UK) and working in recruitment.
