Week in Romania

Post Posted: Sat Apr 03, 2010 6:05 pm

Dear all,

I am going to Romania to spend a week starting the 7th - till the 13th of April
as we are considered a country with warm weather here in Egypt, I can't find the suitable clothing to cope with Romania, especially that now we are in the summer time in Egypt.

My question is : 1) where can i find a place for purchasing winter clothes once I get to Romania, ofcourse i dont want it very expensive , but chic and practical (i will only use it for one week).
2) wil it be easy to find internet connection? and how to , is there coffeeshops that provide wi fi? and if it is for free or paid for , and how much should it cost

till now i dont have the schedule

but do u suggest any place/ activity .. that is NOT TO MISS :)?

any thing that i must take care of ?:)

Thank you in advance
and happy Easter

Hi Fatima,

At the moment the weather seem to range from 15 - 22 degrees C during the daytime which is very pleasant.

However there are many shopping centres and supermarkets (Metro, Auchan, Carrefour, and Kaufland) should you need any additional clothing.

Yes there are many places providing internet and in Bucharest Starbucks and others provide wifi but I don’t know any charges but it is not very much.

The country is not as backward as you may think although there are many extremes.

Are you just going to Bucharest as there are many things to see or do you intend to travel, interesting places are Sinaia, Bran (Dracula’s Castle) and Brasov, look them up on the internet for more detail.

Have a great visit and if I can answer anymore questions please let me know.

Enjoy your Easter,

Paul

Hi Fatima,

Gypsies of Romania where can you find them, well I could say London, Paris, Rome and Madrid etc Shocked Laughing

Gypsies are not of Romanian origin but are particularly prominent across the whole of Eastern Europe.

Trust me you won’t have to look for them the are everywhere and travel in everything from horses and carts to BMW’s and Mercedes. Their houses can be from a ruin to a palace.

Seriously one piece of advice, hard as it seems do not under any circumstance trust any of them. They do have a very different mentality and when you think you can trust one that is when you get caught.

I was once chatting to 3 ladies with babies while sitting in my car, they were catching my attention while others were stealing from the back of the car. This was just one of many many incidents.

Good morning Paul ,
Good morning All Smile

Now it is my 4th day in Romania , the frst 2 days we were by the mountains enjoying some of the snow, 2 days ago we are in Bucharest
so far it is nice country but the only comment that the people can hardly smile!!
when I talk to them it is nice but the 1st impression is..that they are so serious ..and dont want to talk to any one Smile

any way the next couple of days were scheduled for shopping ...so it is flexible time and it would be great to have a nice cup of coffee with members of Expat focus ..." my hotel is downtown "

Have a bright day

Hi, I am very pleased that you are enjoying yourself. Yes you are correct eastern Europeans don't smile very much, I call them "GRUMPY".

I am in the UK still so I cann't meet you but a very good friend of mine Alina Radu may well be in Bucharest and she has the biggest smile in the world, also she has lived in your country.

I will send you her mobile separately so check you private messages in Expat Focus. Tell her that I told you to call her, she is a lovely lady.

Enjoy the rest of your stay,

Paul
