Re: New to the forum? - Would like some information

Post Posted: Mon Jul 19, 2010 1:21 pm

....my son (grown man) and I are coming to CR in September to look around. We will be there for about 10 days. Right now we are planning to look at Grecia and then places on the east and west coasts. Do you have any suggestions for communities of reasonably priced properties? I want the mountains, my husband wants the beach...ugh...no agreement yet. We will probably end up renting for a while. But we are not the least interested in overpriced land or homes.

So far, everything I have read about CR is wonderful...even the rainly season...with the exception of all the $300,000+ homes that are listed on the internet.

Hello from David, U.S. Expat now in La Fortuna, Costa Rica

Post Posted: Tue Jul 20, 2010 7:01 pm

Hi my name is David, I moved to La Fortuna, Costa Rica (near the Arenal Volcano) last April 2010 to enjoy my retirement. Although I decided to be a perpetual tourist for one-year before I make my final decision about living here permanently, so far, all systems are go! I like my home and rain forest town. Nothing better than waking up and sipping on a cup of CR coffee out on my porch while eyeing that active volcano. It's simply beautiful here. I only wish it weren't necessary to leave the country every 90-days to get a new tourist visa but it's a small price to pay for paradise! Say hello whether you are a expat or Tico/a, I'm always up for new friends and interesting conversation. Pura Vida!

Hi,
My name is Gerson Nieves. I am thinking of moving to Costa Rica at some point in 2011. I am 63 years old. I was born in Puerto Rico, but raised in New York. I have been a businessman most of my adult life. Late in my years I became a college professor, teaching history at the college level. I would prefer to live in the Central Valley. Any info or advice will be appreciated.

Hi there all,
I'm Ron from Kentucky and been to CR 3 times in the last 12 months. I am looking to sell out here in the U.S. and retire and move to CR full time. On my 3 trips I have been able to see a lot but know there is still a lot to see! I like the Pacific side so far but know that just getting there and THEN exploring will really tell the story. My biggest concerns are the overall monthly budget for a family of 3 to live modest, finding something to rent at a good price that will take a dog and what everybodys opinion is on which area is best to live in, what good investments are there in CR? We have property here to sell first and hopefully can make the move within the next year. I am a member of international living and attended the living in costa rica seminar last august which answered a lot of the health care, shipping, taxes, insurance, residency questions and more.
Thanks to all............Ron
