Hello all.

I am living in Thailand and love it. Been here for about eight years now. My apartment is in Ratchada and is very nice for what I pay.

I am studying Thai language (pom rian paa saa thai) but it is difficult for me because of the different tones in the words. My hearing is not that great either. Sometimes it is hard to pronounce words and I get miss understood. Once, while in a crowded elevator, I asked for the 4th floor in Thai. It came out like I was asking for sex. I got some funny looks that day.

Hobbies? I love traveling around se asia, boating, movies, learning other cultures, and many other things like history, avaition, ships, and so on. However, it is harder to come and go on a retirement Visa. You have to get a re-entry permit before you go, etc.

Was born and raised in Texas. Have been all over the world and guess traveling is in my blood because I can't seem to stay in one place these days. But when I finally do settle down it will be here in the Land of Smiles.

Hi sanndune

A warm welcome to Expat Focus. Sounds like you are a seasoned veteran in Thailand, hopefully you will be able to help others who are looking to make the move. Cool

We also recently created a Facebook country page for Thailand which can be viewed here

Kind regards
Carole

Hi there. I am a New Zealander who has just visited Thailand for the 3rd time and am committed to retiring there with husband in next couple of years. We need to sell up some property first in order to afford the move, but I seriously can't wait. NZ is expensive in terms of living costs for what we earn, it's just a constant battle. Would rather live somewhere warm and cheaper and we just love the Thai culture. Am surfing the net daily for advice and ideas, thanks for letting me join this website. Cheers
