Driving to BG
Re: Driving to BG

Hi mayb,
My humble opinion is if you have no visa restriction to pass trough Serbia. I don't know your destination but trough Greece and Italy will be longer and more expensive way. To pass trough the south Romanian way also is a good choice but only if you a very familiar with a local road restrictions and regulations.

Don't really understand the comments 'never again' about Romania or Serbia without an explanation. Have driven both countries, with the required Green Card, with no more problems than day to day driving in Bulgaria, in fact the only problem for me occoured in Belgium of all places and that was sorted without donating any €uros to the police department.

Well despite the never again comment we did in fact drive here through Romania. the roads are far and away superior to Bulgaria and it was quite painless, it is just the time it takes, after such a long drive we just wanted to get home. this time we came via Calafat/Vidin and in retrospect we live at the wrong end of the country for this. The reasoning was we would spend less time in Romania, but given the state of the roads over here compared with Romania, it was the wrong decision. In fact I felt embarrassed for our BG friends who were driving with us, after seeing the road all through Europe and in Romania, to drive off the dock in Vidin onto dreadful roads made him put his head in his hands. If a country as poor and as large as Romania can do it, why cant the Bulgarians? all we need now is some sun please!
