Application has been progressed - the current online status is now showing that they received the application on April 6, 2010; that they started processing the application on February 1, 2011 and transferred the file to the Ottawa CIC office on February 18, 2011. Hopefully have more progress to report in the next few months.

That was quicker than I expected - today I received an invitation (dated 11 March) to write my citizenship test on 29 March. Time to start revising!  

Just for information, this is the timeline since we applied for Canadian Citizenship.

Application acknowledged - January 12, 2010

File transferred to Moncton April 13, 2010

Letter inviting us to attend for Citizenship test on August 25, 2010

Letter inviting us to Citizenship Oath Ceremony - October 20, 2010 (Unfortunately unable to attend as we had to fly back to the UK for my mother-in-law's funeral - awaiting another date, assuming the "judge" accepts our reason for not attending this one)

So from start to finish, it took 1 year and 3 months (give or take a few days)

Update 10 March 2011 - got letter today requesting our presence at Citizenship Oath ceremony on Tuesday March 22 at 9.30 a.m. - very excited!

Final stage has been reached - I've been invited to attend the oath ceremony in Ottawa on 25th May.

It's done! As of today I am a Canadian citizen (as well as a UK citizen) and the bureaucracy part of my emigration adventure is complete. The whole process started in December 2005 when I submitted my PR application, in early 2006 I applied for a TWP which was renewed in 2007 just before I was granted the PR visa - my citizenship application was submitted in March 2010 and was completed today when I took the oath. Now the paperwork is done, I can get on an enjoy life as a Canadian, eh.
