Re: Living in Marrakech

Thanks for the tips... we just got in today and it's a bit overwhelming -- but in a good way! -- after life in Cotonou. I'm amazed, too, at the number of immobiliers waiting to help find a place, but we do prefer your approach... better to get a sense of things that way. Do you have any other tips or thoughts about specific places to look -- nice buildings or parts of Gueliz? I'd forgotten what a "real" big city looks like and how many options are out there! Our budget is around $1000/month, and somewhere in Gueliz (ideally with a terrace and/or pool, if that's possible at that price or a bit more) would be great. Looks like we'll be pounding the pavement over the next few days but that's a lot of pavement to pound!

Also -- any tips as to where we can find a good wi-fi connection in town? We're at a cybercafe near the place right now and it's fine, but it'd be better if we could work with our laptops somewhere... any cafes in Gueliz with wi-fi? Other places to check out? How easy/quick is it to get ADSL or other internet installed at home once we find a place?

Thanks tons... any advice -- or just other tips in general for us nouveaux arrivees -- would be fantastic!

For a good wifi spot to hang out would be Kechmara in Gueliz. A trendy little spot and quite good for lunch and a beer. Good music as well. My first hang out and still one of my spots to have a beer. The hottest place right now is right in the heart of the city which is the plaza. Beautiful buildings with modern little shops and such at street level. I have visited some of the apartments and they are beautiful. Can't miss it, right next to Mcdonalds. Another place to check out is the Palacio. One of the nicer apartment complexes in Gueliz.

If you guys really need help, email me at uckboo @ hotmail.com. I'll ask some of my contacts what could be available. As for a pool, which is what I'm looking for, you can find one at some of the apartment complexes, but it's shared throughout all the tenants. I'm looking for a villa and a private pool and right now it looks like it's going to run me between 2000 and 2500 euro a month...

OUCH!!!

Hi Kilrathi & Luangwa,

We're an Anglo/Moroccan family living in Massira 3 (next to Targa), we've got 2 flats for rent in our house. We're near the Targa Club and Acima.

Cheers

I have a collegue of mine looking for a flat to rent. She is looking near Acima and L'ecole Francaise where her young son attends. How big are your flats?

Hi there

I've just moved to Marrakech and working in Semlalia and I am currently looking for an apartment anywhere in town.
If anyone knows an available apartment to rent, or has a spare room that they would like to rent out, or even wants to consider moving to a bigger place then please let me know.

Otherwise I would love to have a beer/tea with anyone who is free and start to get to know my way around town!

Myself and my wife have fallen in love with Marrakech and are looking to move there as soon as we can. Does anyone have any idea of what type of work is available for English speakers. We are both pretty good with languages and would obviously swot up on our French, my wife is a Secondary school teacher and we are both educated to degree level. Are there any international businesses in or around Gueliz?
any thoughts from anyone would be much appreciated
