A22 Experiences

Post Posted: Thu Dec 01, 2011 9:00 pm

There are numerous threads on the subject of Tolls and the A22. I want to start a new one that is informative, rather than expessing views and opinions; where Forum members can appraise other members of their experiences and we can subsequently all learn and benefit.

I travelled on the A22 this morning and there are signs up confirming that TOLLS START ON 8th DEC (bear in mind that this is a public holiday).

Thanks Rod, useful to know for when we return in January.

No doubt the chaos for car hire companies will by that time be in full flow. Rolling Eyes

Good idea. It might be worth making it a sticky; otherwise it will soon be lost among lots of other similar sounding threads.

Rod

I recall that a while ago you were compiling a list of the locations of the gantries and you recently posted that there was only one stretch between exits where there wasn't a gantry (and presumably there is no stretch where there are two?).

Following up on a post from Richard Henshall suggesting we could calculate our own toll cost, perhaps a ready reckoner could be compiled - e.g. on at J6 off at J12 = 5 gantries = x Euros.

Those returning to airports will still not be able to pay their tolls or convince hire companies of the liability, but at least we would know what to expect and could see whether we were subsequently being ripped off.

If you've got the data I don't mind creating a table and posting it as a printable image on the forum.

Hi itsmeagain - No I don't have the data (does anyone?????). However, I don't think that it will work as simply as "number of gantries passed x rate per gantry". I think that each gantry will have a different rate dependent on the distance between the two junctions either side of the gantry. However, that is logical and the authorities here are not renowned for logical thought process.

Hopefully someone will add confirmation on my supposiiton on this topic next week.

Silly me!

A fixed cost per gantry would be far too easy wouldn't it?
