Sorry for the delay Royston, but I had noticed that your secondary query, re. a garage service record, seems to have been missed (stand fast, Scottie).
I suspect AngloInfo are probably technically correct.
Far from new (I`ve never bought a car here less than ten-years-old) but every such purchase has come with said service record (the manufacturers original and/or a garage `substitute`) in the glove compartment. Never ever been asked to produce it, should be added.
Perhaps it was an earlier attempt to emphasise garage responsibilities, formalise IVA records or whatever; but more recently, my own -legal, but by no means `Agent` status- workshop has advised me to just to keep the dated `Factura` to hand*. May also be significant that Portuguese garages, again in my experience, don`t really recognise the concept of a (non-remedial!) vehicle service.
*Finally, incidentally; I assume you know that the various papers that YOU mention you must have with you in the car at all times -`log`, Insurance, + Driving Licence- MUST BE ORIGINALS. Friends have reported less-than-pleasant exchanges with Police over that.
Hope you enjoy the Central Region.

Driving Docs Info please

Hi All,
Just reading on AngloInfo website about driving in Portugal and the regulations, and just wanted a little clarification. I have imported my vehicle and have the Certificado de Matrícula. Now the AngloInfo states that……………
It is compulsory to carry vehicle registration documents (Título de Registo de Propriedade) and log book (Livrete), or DUA (All-in-One Vehicle Document - Documento Único Automóvel)
It’s been two months now since Matriculation was completed. Will I be sent a Log Book from IMTT ?
Secondly the AngloInfo states that……..
It is compulsory for the vehicle to have a garage service record (Livrete de Revisões)
Is that right. All vehicles in Portugal have to be serviced at a garage?
Many thanks, RoystonB

1st, yes you will recieve the new log book from the IMTT, but to be honest.. I would have expected it by now but I would not worry too much yet. If you used an agent speak to them and ask if they can chase it up. After the marticulation is complete there is one last thing to be done(& a small expence) before they send the new logbook... think they call it "registo inicial"?!
2nd, never heard of such nonsense that you need to have the service history... bet the garages would love that if it was true!

Check that your interim certificate does not run out. It may only be valid for a certain time.

Hi RoystonB,
you need to check with Financas whether they have your new registration number on the computer system - if they do you need to register at the conservatoria before you can pay your IUC - we didn't know this but actually made it on the LAST day before a fine was imposed - phew!
Regards

Many thanks for the replies.
I think that I’ll leave it for a little while, then get on to IMTT for the Log Book. Shame really as in a couple of months we are moving to Central Portugal. Expect that will only cost an arm or leg to change address on the Log Book
(If I get it by then).
Managed to pay the IUC online at the Financas site a while ago. Went on there today and got totally lost. Couldn’t find the area for paying IUC or anything on the Car. Still got till October to find it.
Again many thanks, RoystonB

Royston, last time I done it at the conservatorio, was 30€ to change the address, unless you find a lawyer who has permission to do it(normally about 15€)
