Humax/Freeview

Post Posted: Thu Feb 02, 2012 10:08 pm

Can someone please educate me on the latest status please.

What channels do you receive free with these two systems. Any Sky channels? Any Sports channels? how many in total? Is there a web site that will give me the definitive details? I am hoping that someone here in Portugal has practical experience of these systems.

For Freeview I think you mean Freesat which has a web page and lists all channels. Humax is a brand of receiver that can pick up Freeview (if in UK) or Freesat. Bought my mum a Bush Freesat box with 320Gb HD, swapped skybox cables onto Bush box and then simple 'enter your UK postcode' setup - about 150 quid at Argos. ie this kind of box will get you the same Freesat channels as if you were in the UK and it uses same satellite as Sky. No subs - just cost of box. No Sky sport or movies or a lot of stuff you may be used to on Sky if you pay a sub.

We have a Humax foxsat 500gb HD box brilliant, free HD - great recording facility. So far, less breaking up of signa, two of our neighbours have just got the same boxes - fed up with sky cards etc

These two sites will give you all UK channels available on Freesat FtoA and Sky, it's the encoded Sky channels like sports you can only get with a subscription with a Sky box, unless you follow liveabroads route.
As Peter says Humax is best used here for Free to Air channels

Initially supposed to be tighter beams with less scatter but recent information shows little change to footprint, so hopefully no different to Astra2, just Google Astra 1N loads of info, but think it's really going to be a wait and see

If you buy a non-freesat branded box, then you still receive the same channels but the EPG is not as good (you only get now and next).
Leroy Merlin had a Spanish box, HD plus recording to USB, and receives TDT for €99
