Newcomers to Holland get a big welcome

Sunday, August 08, 2004 (05:34:38)
It won't be the usual Dutch Beurs taking place in Amsterdam on 24th October, because this time it will be the English-speaking expat community in Holland attending the very first "Welcome to the Netherlands Fair".

Expatica Communications, best known for its news and information websites for English-speakers (www.expatica.com) is hosting this Welcome Fair in order to bring both long-term expats and newcomers together in a fun and educational environment.

This event offers a unique opportunity for expatriates to check out services and to meet the organisations they may wish to join or support in order to make the most of their life in Holland. The setting is ideal for the event, being in the historic Beurs van Berlage and in central Amsterdam, making access easy for expats coming to the event from all around the country.

Over a third of Brits would work abroad

Sunday, August 08, 2004 (05:29:05)
Now that the European Union consists of 25 member states and there are fewer obstacles in the path of workers wishing to move across borders to work, people who have been contemplating finding a new job can now explore horizons farther afield than their own country. Almost 700 Brits took part in a Europe-wide survey conducted by Monster with the purpose of discovering what motivates people to work abroad.

The Monster Meter asked, "Why would you consider working abroad?" 694 Brits placed a vote, revealing:

36% (252) For a better quality of life
29% (199) To experience a new culture or learn a language
22% (152) A good career opportunity
9% (62) For more money
4% (29) I wouldn’t consider it
