Things Getting You Down in Spain? The Costa Blanca Samaritans are Just a Call Away

Things Getting You Down in Spain? The Costa Blanca Samaritans are Just a Call Away

by Barbara Meredith of Costa Blanca Samaritans

Life here on the Costa Blanca can be joyful. However, when difficult situations come along, being in a foreign country can exacerbate feelings of isolation and desperation, especially without trusted friends or family around you. Costa Blanca Samaritans are here for just those times, with a trained Listener ready to “walk beside you” through your troubles.

Samaritan volunteers listen, regardless of how big or small the issue, and listen without judging or telling you what you should or shouldn’t do. We are not aligned to any other organisation, social, religious or political, and we strive for neutrality, aiming to allow you to explore your situation your way. What you share with us is entirely confidential within the organisation. No calls are recorded or traced, and you don’t have to give any personal information to talk to a volunteer, not even your name.

The Samaritan service here in Spain is available without charge to any English speaker of any age, wherever they might be in the country. What we do is modelled on the service offered for more than 50 years in the U.K. and which has spread to 40 countries around the world.

From January 2011 the Costa Blanca Samaritans will see the launch of a new service and for those who would prefer to have support via email, this will also be available, giving the option of either phoning one of our listening volunteers or emailing us. As with telephone support, everything written via email will be confidential and your name or personal information will not need to be given.

Do call! Our volunteers are on duty to listen to you every evening between 8p.m. and midnight. If you want to find out more about Samaritans here in Spain, you can contact us at info@costablancasamaritans.com or at www.costablancasamaritans.com

Most importantly, remember the number in case you or someone you care for should ever need it:

902 88 35 35

(calls charged at national NOT premium rate)
Costa Blanca Samaritans is a not-for-profit organisation operated entirely by unpaid volunteers and is registered with the Generalitat Valenciana under CV-01-042952-A and NIF G54341466.
