There are a number of ways a traveller can get to Argentina, but unless you are travelling from one of the neighbouring countries the most convenient way is by air.

The Ezeiza Ministro Pistarini is the International airport situated just outside the city of Buenos Aires. Those arriving there can use the regular bus service to make their way into the city. Passengers who need to take a domestic connecting flight can take the coach to Jorge Newbery airport although there is the ‘Remis’ where passengers can find a taxi if preferred and travellers are advised to avoid the numerous unlicensed taxis which can be found there.

A number of international airlines bring hundreds of thousands of visitors in and out of Argentina each year. The country’s own airline is Aerolineas Argentinas, while major airlines such as British Airways, American Airlines, Lufthansa and Air France are among the others which serve the country.

Average flight times from Europe are around 18 hours, from the United States between 14 and 16 hours, Singapore is almost 30 hours away and Australia up to 20 hours. Many flights from major airports are direct, requiring no connections. Depending on the traveller’s country of origin, a small fee may be payable upon arrival though details of this will be given when tickets and visas are obtained.

When purchasing your ticket, you may be offered an ‘air pass’. These are ideal for those who wish to travel around within the country, as they can save a great deal of money on internal flights. However, they are not available in Argentina when you arrive and must be purchased alongside the international ticket.

There are a number of ferries which link Buenos Aires with Uruguay and Paraguay. A ferry journey to Montevideo can take as little as 2 ¾ hours. Travellers can also make use of the rail links with Paraguay, Brazil, Chile and Bolivia, though the service is not as reliable as other types of transport as timetables should be double-checked prior to travel.

The road links between Argentina and several of its neighbours are excellent, with a number of well-maintained motorways. Argentina has several coach companies running international services. Border crossings are easy provided the traveller has the correct documentation. The buses used tend to be fairly modern and comfortable, making a road journey a good option.
