Expats moving to Argentina will find that there are many different leisure activities on offer and everyone should find something to suit them.

The Argentine people enjoy taking part in a number of sports. The country has become popular with hikers due to the beautiful countryside and different landscapes. The mountains attract skiing enthusiasts during the colder months of June to August. The lake region in Patagonia attracts those who enjoy fishing and the varied landscapes are a natural draw for those who enjoy horseback riding and biking. Team games are very popular in Argentina and one of the largest spectator sports is soccer. Golf is also becoming an increasingly popular pastime in the country with several excellent courses, more than can be found anywhere else in South America, another legacy of its European heritage.

Popular visitor attractions include Tierra del Fuego, Iguazu Falls, the Perito Glacier and several national parks. Buenos Aires has a number of museums which will suit all interests from the life of Eva Peron and motor racing museums to the history and culture of Argentina. Other events that may be of interest include the book fair held each April and a Spanish film festival.

Buenos Aires offers a wide choice of entertainment and night life and everybody should be able to find something to suit them. The tango has long been associated with Argentina and tango shows can be found at several venues across the capital. They are very well-liked, particularly with tourists. There are a number of theatres situated on the Avenida Corrientes where the shows vary from operas to Broadway plays. The only drawback for non-Argentines is that most will be in Spanish, though this will be useful for those learning the language.

The capital city also has a fair amount of bars, night clubs and restaurants. Those who smoke will find that there are different regulations depending on where they are in the country. There is a currently a campaign for a blanket ban on smoking in public places. For example, Sante Fe has a ban on smoking in public places which are enclosed such as restaurants and work places, while Buenos Aires has a similar ban which extends to bars too.

Expats will also find that there are a number of societies which they can join to help them to meet new people such as the Young Expat Society of Buenos Aires (YESBA) and Buenos Aires International Newcomers.
