Austria's official language is German, although many different dialects and variations from standard German are spoken in different parts of the country. In general, Austrian German is similar to that spoken in Bavaria.

English is fairly widely spoken in Austria, although it is normally necessary to speak German fairly fluently if you are going to be working there. There are many German language schools in Vienna and other cities.
