Many expatriates find the standard of healthcare in Bangkok high and reasonably priced. There are many local doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals who speak good English, and in many cases, these healthcare professionals have received training in the US or other European countries. In particular, Bangkok has become Thailand's premier medical destination for international patients seeking medical treatment and elective / non-urgent surgery (e.g. plastic surgery). Interested readers may wish to visit www.medical-tourism-in-thailand.com for more information. The medical system in Bangkok is based on the American system, so expatriates familiar with the American system of healthcare services will feel at home in Bangkok.

In terms of hospital facilities, there are a range of public and private hospitals and outpatient clinics expatriates seek treatment with. The two popular hospitals with expatriates are the Bumrungrad Hospital (33 Sukhumvit 3 (Soi Nana Nua), Wattana, Tel: +02 667 1000 for general enquires; dial +02 667 1555 for outpatient appointments and +02 667 2300 for dental appointments) and the Bangkok General Hospital (2 Soi Soonvijai 7, New Petchburi Road Bangkapi, Huay Khwang, Tel: +02 310 3000 or 1719 for local calls). Because of its popularity with expatriates, the fees charged Bumrungrad hospital tend to be higher than some other hospitals that offer equally excellent service. A list of hospitals that have English-speaking staff is maintained by the Royal Thai Embassy in London at their The New Community Services (previously known as Community Services of Bangkok) is an English-speaking counseling and training center based in Bangkok. They offer a range of counseling services, from family / marital to gender issues, and can cater to individuals, church groups, companies and organizations.
