Currency and Cost of Living

Belgium - Currency and Cost of Living

The unit of currency in Belgium is the Euro (EUR), made up of 100 cents. EUR1 was equivalent to GBGBP0.67 and US$1.18 in December 2005.

The cost of living in Belgium is quite high, although some expatriates have reported that it is cheaper than the UK and some other European countries.

Typical prices include:

Loaf of bread: EUR1.5
Soft drink in bar EUR1.5

Service charges and VAT, where applicable, are always included in prices, although it is customary to give small additional tips for exceptional service.
