Climate and Weather
Back to top Back to main Skip to menuBrunei - Climate and Weather
Between the months of March to April Brunei enjoys some of its hottest temperatures and as the rainfall stops, it sees temperatures rising to over 40 degrees. For those not used to living in this sort of climate it can make for a very uncomfortable period of time and may take some getting used to. Although temperatures can be hot Brunei does not actually have a dry season, but the months of February through to April tend to be the driest having less rainfall than other months.
The monsoon winds usually come from the south east and there are also easterly winds which can make for some climatic changes although these changes are minimal. The temperature varies very little in Brunei; the average (mean) temperatures are usually between 24 degrees as a minimum and 32 degrees as a maximum. The humidity in the country stays very high all year.
It is advisable to have a rain jacket close to hand and also due to the humidity light weight clothing is best worn as this will help to keep the wearer comfortable in what can often be a very uncomfortable heat. Fabrics such as cotton and linen help to keep the wearer cool. There is little need for the heavy winter clothes that the natives of northern Europe use regularly.
Brunei is outside of the typhoon belt and is also largely unaffected by earthquakes, so as far as natural disasters are concerned Brunei is a fairly safe place to live and work. The warmer climate makes it attractive to expats who live in more temperate climates and who wish to avoid colder winters. It is also ideal for those who enjoy water sports and other outdoor activities.
