Bulgaria has become a popular skiing destination, with a season lasting from December to April. There are many ski resorts, the most popular of which include Borovets, Pamporovo and Bansko. Climbing, hiking, mountain-biking and caving are also popular in Bulgaria's mountainous regions.
Water-sports off the Black Sea coast are very popular with visitors and Bulgarians alike.
Football is the most popular spectator and participant sport in Bulgaria. The country has also achieved acclaim for its international success in athletics, tennis, wrestling and boxing.
Bulgaria has a very rich cultural heritage and many festivals are held annually with traditional music, folk dancing and costumes. There are also often live performances of folk music and dancing in restaurants and other venues. Bulgaria hosts the Koprivshtitsa International Folk Festival every five years. Other important regional festivals in Bulgaria include the Kukeri spring festival and the Festival of Roses, held in June.
Sofia and the other main cities of Bulgaria have a good range of entertainment options, including opera and classical music concerts, rock music venues, nightclubs and discos, pubs, bars, cinemas and theatres. Sofia also has a number of museums and many historical buildings and monuments of interest.
