Visas
Citizens of the following countries do not require a visa to enter the Republic of Croatia for a stay of up to 90 days:
Principality of Andorra, Argentine Republic, Australia, Republic of Austria, Kingdom of Belgium, Republic of Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Federative Republic of Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Republic of Bulgaria, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Republic of Chile, Kingdom of Denmark, Republic of Ecuador, Republic of Estonia, Republic of Finland, French Republic, Republic of Guatemala, Hellenic Republic, Republic of Honduras, Ireland, Republic of Iceland, State of Israel, Japan, Canada, Republic of Korea, Republic of Costa Rica, Republic of Latvia, Principality of Liechtenstein, Republic of Lithuania, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Republic of Hungary, Republic of Macedonia, Malaysia, Republic of Malta, United Mexican States, Principality of Monaco, Republic of Nicaragua, Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kingdom of Norway, New Zealand, Federal Republic of Germany, Republic of Panama, Republic of Paraguay, Republic of Poland, Portuguese Republic, Romania, Republic of El Salvador, Republic of San Marino, Republic of Singapore, United States of America, Slovak Republic, Republic of Slovenia, Kingdom of Spain, Kingdom of Sweden, Swiss Confederation, Italian Republic, Republic of Turkey, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Eastern Republic of Uruguay, Vatican City State, Republic of Venezuela.
The exemption from the visa requirement also applies to the holders of valid travel documents issued in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China and in the Macao Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.
Citizens of the following states may enter the Republic of Croatia with a valid national identity card (in lieu of a passport) that confirms their identity with a photograph:
The European Union Member States and nations signatory to the Schengen Agreement, Principality of Andorra, Principality of Liechtenstein, Principality of Monaco, Republic of San Marino, Swiss Confederation, Vatican City State.
All other foreign nationals require a visa and passport to enter the Republic of Croatia.
Foreign citizens must apply for visas directly at a diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Croatia abroad.
Documentation required:
- completed application
- passport
- 2 30x35 mm color photographs
- document showing purpose of visit
- document showing proof of accommodation in Croatia
- proof of finances equivalent to 100 Euros/day of visit or more
- proof of return ticket or onward travel
Temporary Residence Permit
Foreign citizens who intend to stay in the Republic of Croatia for more than 90 days must obtain a temporary residence permit. Eligibility for temporary residence is not complicated or difficult to establish. Proof of long-term accommodation rental, proof of property ownership, proof of investment in a Croatian corporation, or even ownership of a yacht moored long-term in Croatian waters will all qualify. Temporary residence permits are issued for a period of one year, and are easily renewed.
Temporary residence permits for foreigners requiring visas must be applied for at a Croatian embassy or consular office abroad. Citizens of countries who do not need visas may apply at a local police station in Croatia.
Required documentation:
- 2 photographs
- photocopy of valid passport
- birth certificate
- proof of sufficient funds (100 Euro/day or credit cards, bank statement etc.)
- Criminal record check (no more than 6 months prior to application)
- proof of health insurance
Permanent Residence Permit
Permanent residency may be granted when:
- a foreign national has lived in Croatia with a valid temporary residence/work permit for a period of at least five consecutive years
- a foreigner who has a valid temporary residence/work permit has been married to a Croatian citizen for a minimum of three years
- a foreigner who has a valid temporary residence/work permit has been married to a foreigner with a permanent residence permit for a minimum of three years
- a minor under 18 years of age accompanies a parent who holds a permanent residence permit
