Denmark - Currency and Cost of Living



The Danish currency is the Danish Krone (DKK), made up of 100 øre. Notes come in denominations of DKK50, 100, 200, 500 and 1,000, and coins in denominations of DKK1, 2, 5, 10 and 20, and 25 and 50 øre.

The cost of living in Denmark is very high; it is the third most expensive in the world, according to a survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit. Eating out, accommodation, transport and groceries are all very expensive; however, salaries are also high in Denmark compared with many other countries, and many welfare services are provided free of charge.
