Household utility bills include electricity, gas (if used) and water supply. Electricity and gas bills are usually based on estimated consumption, which is adjusted on an annual basis. Some households use oil for heating, and this is payable on delivery. Water is metered in most properties.

Bills can be paid to most utilities companies via internet banking or via PBS, a free standing order service operated by the banks. The vast majority of Danish residents use the PBS system to pay their bills. Utilities bills can also be paid at banks and post offices, on payment of a charge of DKK 10-15 for each bill.

Water drainage and sewerage are paid for via the property tax or directly to the water company.

Household refuse is collected weekly, and the charges for this are included in property taxes. Recyclable materials such as glass and paper, as well as garden refuse should not be included with household refuse, but should be taken to recycling stations. Many local authorities also have arrangements to collect garden refuse twice a year.
