Telephone

The country code for Estonia is +372. Calls to Estonia from outside should be made with +372 dialed first, followed by the subscriber's number. Calls from Estonia require a person to dial 00 + the country code + area code + the subscriber's number. The Ekspress Hotline is an English-speaking information service serving all of Estonia. The Hotline number is 1182 and the website is www.1182.ee. 1188 Info is another information line available all over Estonia. The 1182 and 1188 numbers can only be dialed inside the country.

Foreign investment in the form of joint business ventures has greatly improved the telephone service. Substantial fiber-optic cable systems carry digital telephone, television, and radio traffic.

Post

Postage on letters within Estonia is EEK 4.40 and postcards EEK 3.60. Letters to Nordic countries are EEK 5.50; to the EU EEK 6.50; to Russia EEK 6.50; to the US and Canada and other countries EEK 8.00. Most letters take between one and three days to arrive within Baltic and Nordic countries and up to a week to other countries. Most post offices are open during shopping hours generally; usually from 0900 to 1800 hours on weekdays and 0930 to 1500 on Saturdays. The Central Post Office in Tallinn is at Narva mnt. 1. The phone number is 661 6616. The opening hours for the Central Post Office are Monday to Friday, 0730 to 2000 hours; Saturday 0900 to 1800.

Expect to pay anywhere between 1000 and 2000 a month for an internet connection. Broadband internet access is extremely common across most of Estonia. Dial-up internet access in now rarely used, except in the few areas of the country that do not offer broadband access.

For those without computer access, there are numerous cyber-cafes in which it is possible to secure access to the internet for an hourly fee.
