Estonia - Utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water)

QUICK LINKS: Estonia Guide - Estonia Discussion Forum - Estonia Property Listings

Registering for basic services prior to moving into a house or apartment is advisable. Advanced registration avoids the inconvenience of being without power, water, and gas upon arrival. The registration process for utilities can last up to several weeks; the process should begin well before occupancy of the house or apartment.

Electricity

In Estonia the electrical supply is 220 volts AC, 50 Hz. European-style 2-pin plugs are used.

Depending on the terms of a lease, the cost of electricity may be covered by the landlord in rented property. If residential property has been purchased, it is important to register with the service office for the regional distributor in the district. A technician will come to the residence and either connect a meter (if electricity is not already wired) or read the meter as a means of determining the usage.

Gas

Eesto Gaas is the company that serves Estonia. To register for service a copy of the lease agreement or proof of ownership is required.

Water

Water consumption is generally included in lease agreements. A new owner of property must register with the Water and Sewerage Company that serves the district to continue service. Generally, the necessary information is obtainable through the previous owner/occupant of the property.
