France has a large number of international airports throughout the country, as well as numerous smaller regional airports. The largest is Paris Charles de Gaulle International Airport, located 15 miles to the north-east of Paris. Other airports include Paris Orly International Airport to the south of the city, Bordeaux International Airport in the south of France and Lyon Saint-Exupery International Airport in the centre of the country, close to the Alps.
The national airline is Air France, which operates routes to destinations worldwide. Many other national airlines operate routes into France, including an increasing number of low-cost airlines from the UK and other European countries.
Approximate flight times to Paris are one hour from London, eight hours from New York, fifteen hours from Los Angeles and twenty-five hours from Sydney.
France has excellent road and rail links with all neighbouring European countries, including the high-speed Eurostar rail service which runs between London, Paris and Brussels. Passengers can travel inside their cars on the frequent and fast Eurotunnel shuttle services between Folkestone and Calais.
There are also passenger and car ferry services between the UK ports and a number of French ports including Boulogne, Calais and Le Havre. In the south, there are scheduled ferry services between Marseille, Nice and other Mediterranean destinations such as Corsica, Sardinia, Algeria and Tunisia.
