Hong Kong - Education and Schools

Education in Hong Kong is quite comprehensive although class sizes tend to be large. Children have the option of entering either a local school (which may be taught in Cantonese or, very rarely, in English). Most expatriates educate their children either through the English Schools Foundation system or at an International School e.g. the American International School, the French International School, the Australian International School. It depends on how long you will be living in Hong Kong and where you will be next. I would try to ensure some continuity though if you do move around regularly

Alternatively some parents send their children to boarding school in places like Thailand and Singapore.

I chose a variety of options and my children spent some time in a Mandarin only speaking school when they were young before moving to an English speaking school.

School also starts at quite a young age (around 2 years old) and children will attend either a morning session or an afternoon session at this age.

Additionally school buses are the norm and many schools will arrange bussing for your children and bring them to and from your apartment each day for a monthly charge. If the bus does not have seat belts they can be individually purchased and clipped around the seat. Many parents choose this option.
