Hong Kong - Leisure, Entertainment and Sports

Hong Kong is an excellent place from which to travel and explore the surrounding Asian countries although travel options can book up very quickly over the Chinese New Year period as many people leave the island during this period. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, The Philippines and so on are all close by and accessible. Keep an eye out for travel offers and establish a good relationship with a travel agent. Some airlines will email you details of their latest offers, make sure that you sign up with them. Additionally, some clubs have favoured rates for members and it is worth checking this out.

Leisure in Hong Kong really depends on the kind of person you are and how you wish to spend your time. Sporting fans can play most of the well established sports here as well as learning specific Asian ones such as martial arts, fan dancing, tai Chi, sword dancing and so on.

Fitness centres are widespread and offer a range of classes from spinning to yoga and pilates. HK Magazine, a weekly magazine that is distributed free of charge will have more comprehensive details listed in their classified section. They also have a club section and these range from poetry, to philosophy, to art appreciation depending on your interests.

Other organisations include the YWCA/YMCA, the British Council, the American Womens' Club and a variety of international Clubs such as the Australian Association and the Canadian Club. These all offer activities, courses and opportunities to meet people and enjoy your leisure time.
