Getting There

Ireland - Getting There

There are direct flights to Ireland from London's four international airports, from other British and European cities and from the US. Flights from Great Britain take around an hour, while the average flight times from the US are six and a half hours from New York and 10 hours from Los Angeles. There are many international and domestic British airlines operating routes to Ireland, including budget airlines.

The Republic of Ireland has three airports: Dublin airport which is around six miles north of the capital city, Shannon Airport on the west coast, ten miles from Limerick, and Cork Airport, five miles from Cork city. Express buses operate between these airports and the nearby cities.

It is also possible to travel to Ireland by ferry from Wales and from France. Ferry services operate between Dublin and Holyhead in Wales, and between Rosslare and Fishguard and Pembroke in Wales. There are also services between Cork and St. Malo, Le Havre and Cherbourg in France.
