Leisure, Entertainment and Sport

Israel - Leisure, Entertainment and Sport

There are a wide variety of locations in Israel which offer a good choice of different leisure and sports activities. There is an unending amount of archaeological and historical sites which attract thousands of visitors each year as well as the various nature sites. Those who are nature lovers can use the many hiking trails and several venues offer other outdoor activities like classical concerts or sports matches. The Israel Nature Preservation Society website includes recommended routes, as well as maps and information about the plants and wildlife of the region. The Eye on Israel website consists of maps of all the regions in the country along with hiking trails.

Eilat has a warm climate and is sunny throughout the year. It is the ideal place to enjoy the sun and the beach as most of the hotels are within walking distance. The hotels have swimming pools and are located close to restaurants, clubs and entertainment centres which include cinemas and shopping complexes.

The city of Jerusalem also receive many tourists each year, most of which are on pilgrimages. The city has much to offer them in the way of historical and religious monuments, although there are shops, restaurants and cinemas for those who are interested in more social activities. There are some hotels in Jerusalem which offer spa and fitness facilities which are available to non residents for a fee. Jerusalem is also home to several museums which are popular with visitors, as they chart the history of the Jewish and Christian faiths.

The majority of Tel Aviv's hotels are located along the beach front's promenade, most of which are large hotels belonging to international and national franchises and which have similar spa and fitness facilities to those in Jerusalem. Tel Aviv has a much more tourist outlook than Jerusalem and has many shops, restaurants and cinemas.

Animal and plant lovers can see many species which are native to Israel in many of the country's well maintained nature reserves. Animals that have become extinct in nature are raised and protected in parks like the Khai Bar nature reserves in the heart of the Carmel Park and near Yotveta in the Negev. Large numbers of tourists and citizens visit these reserves each year to see and support the work of the parks. There are also many ideal places for bird watchers in Israel, as it is located on the migration routes of birds migrating back and forth from Europe to Africa.

When it comes to leisure, Israel may not be high on most people’s list of favoured destinations, but if you can look past the political problems you will find a country that has much to offer.
