Japan's has four major international airports, the most important being Narita Airport, 65 km east of Tokyo. The other main international airports are Kansai, which serves Osaka, Nagoya's Central Japan Airport and Fukuoka Airport.

Japan's has two main international airlines: Japan Airlines (JAL) and All Nippon Airways (ANA). Many other leading world airlines offer flights to Japan.

Average flight times are 12 hours between London and Tokyo is 12 hours, 12 hours and 30 minutes between New York and Tokyo, 9 hours and 30 minutes between Los Angeles and Tokyo and 9 hours and 30 minutes between Sydney and Tokyo.

There are sea routes between Japan and a number of other countries, including China, Taiwan Korea and Russia, with many daily and weekly ferry services.
