Royal Jordanian is the national airline in Jordan. It flies directly between Jordan's capital Amman and numerous destinations throughout the Middle East, Europe and the rest of the world. It flies to Chicago, Montreal, New York and Toronto to the west and to Calcutta, Delhi, Colombo, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta to the east.

Other airlines that operate direct flights to Jordan include Air France, British Airways, KLM, Alitalia, Turkish Airlines, Austrian Airlines, Cyprus Airways, Air Romania, Lufthansa, Olympic, Swissair and a host of airlines belonging to surrounding Middle Eastern countries. Flights from Europe can take between 5 and 6 hours, but flights from the US or Australia will take much longer.

Visitors can also travel by ferry; they can cross between Aqaba and the Egyptian port of Nuweibeh via car ferry. The service for this ferry runs daily, it leaves at 15:00. A one way trip from Aqaba to Nuweibeh takes three and a half hours and costs $11 US. If you wish to cut the travel time, you can by paying for a one hour journey speedboat which leaves Aqaba at 12 noon; this will cost you $41 US.

You can also make your journey by train. The Hijaz Railway train runs once a week between Jordan's capital city Amman and Damascus, on the very same track that was built by the Ottomans at the beginning of this century. The train departs from Amman at 08:00 every Monday morning and arrives at Damascus at 17:00 in the evening. This train leaves Damascus again every Sunday morning at 7:30 and arrives in Amman at 17:00. Tickets cost 2.5 JD and are only available for purchase on the day of travel.

The only border crossing between Jordan and Syria exists at Ramtha/Der'a. Ramtha is on the Jordanian side and is about 88 kilometres north of Amman and Der'a is 100 kilometres from Damascus. Jordanian JETT buses, as well as the Karnak Company, which are their Syrian counterparts, connect Amman and Damascus. The trip between the two takes between five and six hours, this journey time includes the time taken to complete the formalities required by the border officers. You are recommended to book at least two days in advance, and you should expect to pay approximately 5JD. Servee's taxis to Damascus from Amman run from the Abdali bus station.

There is also a JETT bus service that runs between Amman and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, which runs three times a week, this trip lasts around 22 hours. You will need a visa for Saudi Arabia. JETT also operates a daily service between Amman and Baghdad however, getting a tourist visa for Iraq is quite difficult.
