Luxembourg (City) - Communications (Telephone, Internet, TV, Post)

Luxembourg City is extremely well developed in terms of its telecommunications capability and infrastructure provision. Expatriates will find a good range of telecommunication providers offering many services that can help them stay easily connected with their overseas families and friends.

Internet connection is available in several forms – dial up (slower access) or ADSL / WiFi. Some operators offer bundled packages for telephone landlines, internet access and mobile phone services. IPTV (Internet Television known as la Tele des P&T), just introduced in 2008, is comparable to cable television with its offering of some 8- channels. Mobile internet connection is available via the City's WiFi network. Visit www.hotcity.lu to register.

The primary television broadcaster is RTL Tele Letzebuerg (Radio-Television Luxembourg). RTL is Europe's largest TV and radio production company. RTL features mainly sports, news, culture and music. The main language of transmission is in Luxembourgish, with simultaneous broadcast in French. There are also a number of French (TF1, France 2 and M6) and German channels (ARD, Pro7, ZDF, Sat.1). In 2002, T.TV was introduced as a competitor to RTL. For English and other language TV programs, you can sign up either for a cable service, or IPTV or satellite. Depending on where you live, the service provider of that region will provide the service to your residence.
