An international airport, Findel Airport, is located just 5.6 kilometers (3.5 miles) northeast of Luxembourg City. There are about 260 international flights operating out of Findel Airport weekly, but the majority of these flights are for destinations in Europe. Some International (cross Atlantic or continent) carriers fly direct into Luxembourg City. For example, British Airways flies direct between London (Gatewick) and Luxembourg City. To broaden your flight options, you can consider flying via an international carrier to nearby cities with airports with wider international flights connections. For examples, Luftansa into Frankfurt; Swiss air into Zurich; KLM into Amsterdam; Air France into Paris. Other international carriers, for example, Air Canada, American Airlines and United operate out of the Brussels International Airport, which is close to Luxembourg City.

Once you have arrived in any of these nearby European cities, you can either choose to fly into Luxembourg City, or transfer via rail / drive into Luxembourg City. If you choose to fly, the national carrier, Luxair, operates many regular flights between many European cities. There are some budget carrier options as well.

From the Findel Airport, the best options to get to your final destination would be to either hire a taxi, or rent a car and drive yourself. The average cost of a taxi ride from the airport to the central train station is around 25 Euros. Alternatively, there is a bus shuttle between the airport and the central train station in Luxembourg City. This option is best reserved for expatriates traveling light and alone, as expatriates would still need to make at least one more transfer via rail in order to get to their final destination. The option to travel to your final destination via rail will improve when the new train station at the Findel Airport is ready (scheduled for completion in 2012-13).

If you choose to drive, the airport is very well connected to the major expressways - A6 from Brussels / Arlon (West, Belgium), A31-A3 from Metz (South, France), A4 from Esch/Alzette (South), A1 from Trier (East, Germany) and A7 from Ettlebruck / Mersch (Northeast, Germany). Via rail, Luxembourg City is well connected to Europe's rail network. You can take the Eurostar to Paris, and from Paris, take France's TGV to Luxembourg. Alternatively, you can take the Eurostar to Brussels, and take the Belgium SNCB to Luxembourg. Both journeys take around 7 hours. If you are heading from Germany, there is the Deutsche Bahn that will take you right to the border of Luxembourg, and from there, you can transfer to CFL, the Luxembourg railways.
