Healthcare in Monaco is privately run, hence the cost can be expensive as compared to countries with a national healthcare system. Foreigners living in Monaco – regardless of whether they are employed or not – must be covered by private medical insurance. When applying for your residence card, you may be asked to show documentary proof of your private medical insurance.

The Sapeurs-Pompiers are the firefighters of Monaco, and they also assist in emergencies and rescue missions in Monaco. There is a helpful booklet on what to do in emergencies published by them available on their website. The booklet is available in French.

Night pharmacies and on-duty doctors for emergencies operate on a rota system after office hours. Dial 141 to check which doctor and/or chemist will be on duty. You can also click here for details. Most pharmacies will also post the contact information of the doctors and pharmacists who will be on duty on their doors of their shops.

The Princess Grace Hospital is the only general hospital in Monaco. The hospital deals with all types of medical treatment, from ER to obstetrics and pediatrics, general and specialized surgery, and handles referral cases. The hospital is located at 1 Avenue Pasteur. The Monaco Cardio-Thoracic Center ("Centre Cardio-thoracique de Monaco), established in 1987, is an excellent (but small) facility for thoracic and cardiac treatment. The Center is located at 11 bis, avenue d'Ostende. For general enquires, call (+377) 92.168.000. The Monaco International Medical Center is located in Fontvieille (2 rue de la Lujerneta). The Family Mediation (Tel: (+377) 98.984.100) operate from 830am to 430am. The Monegasque Institute of Medicine and Sporting Surgery (IM2S) is located at 11, Avenue d'Ostende.
