Schipol, located 10km southwest of Amsterdam, is the Netherlands' main international airport, and one of the busiest European air hubs. The national airline is KLM-Royal Dutch Airlines, which operates direct routes to cities throughout Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific region. Many other national airlines also fly into Schipol, including some low-cost European airlines. Approximate flight times to Amsterdam are one hour and twenty minutes from London and seven hours from New York, via London.
An excellent motorway network links the Netherlands with the rest of mainland Europe, with long distance public bus services between Amsterdam and other European cities. There is also a fast and efficient rail service linking Amsterdam and other Dutch cities with neighbouring countries, but rail travel is generally much more expensive than the bus.
There are scheduled passenger and car ferry services between the UK and the Dutch ports of the Hook of Holland and Rotterdam, as well as services from Belgian and French ports.
