Portugal - Climate and Weather

Portugal enjoys a mild climate all year long, one of the warmest in Europe. Temperatures in the north of the country average a pleasant 13 degrees C, while in the south around 18 degrees C is the norm.

Summers tend to be sunny, dry and clear. You can expect these idyllic summer weather conditions to last well into September. Late autumn and winter are generally cool, frequently rainy, and can be breezy. Winter temperatures range from 5 to 10 degrees C, depending on location.

Most of Portugal's rainfall occurs during the winter months. Subtropical Madeira, the Azores and their surrounding areas receive significantly more annual rainfall than the rest of Portugal. Snow occurs in the mountains of the north, particularly in Serra da Estrela.
