Page: 1/2The Western expatriates that work in Qatar are mostly employed by foreign companies involved in the oil and gas industries or other projects in the country. To secure a job in Qatar, whether with a foreign or local company, you will need specialist or technical skills that are in demand there. The main opportunities are reportedly in engineering, management, teaching, IT and other professional jobs.
Of Qatar's English-language newspapers that have websites, only the Gulf Times carries a daily classifieds section with details of job vacancies. The Arabic daily newspaper Al Watan also contains a job section in English on its website.
Under Qatar's Labour Law, employers can only offer jobs to foreign nationals if there are no suitably qualified Qataris or other Arab country nationals.
There are no restrictions on the employment of women in Qatar, and although opportunities are limited, it may be possible for women to find jobs in some sectors such as teaching, health and administrative work.
There are a number of on-line jobsites specializing in jobs in the Gulf, including Qatar.
