Winter sports such as skiing and tobogganing are among the many leisure activities one can enjoy while in Slovakia. There are many outstanding ski-resorts in the Tatras mountains, boasting first-class facilities, equipment rental and qualified instructors. Cross-country skiing is very popular as well.

Slovakia is a terrific destination for the nature lover. A 12000 kilometer long, well-maintained and well-marked system of hiking trails offers access to pristine wilderness in the many state parks and preserves, where local wildlife may be viewed.

Golfing, sailing on the Danube, tennis, horse riding and a myriad of other outdoor pursuits are all to be found for the sports enthusiast.

For the more culturally inclined, Bratislava is a capital city that hosts a multitude of year round cultural events, from folk-dance festivals to castle tours.

The Slovak National Theatre offers Opera and Ballet performances on a regular basis. The Slovak National Gallery has an excellent selection of permanent and rotating temporary exhibits of paintings and sculpture to please every art lover.

There are several modern cinemas in Bratislava where recent release English language films (often Hollywood blockbusters) are shown in air-conditioned comfort.

Should you wish to indulge in a bit of nightlife, there are numerous inexpensive restaurants, bars and nightclubs (some with live entertainment) where the spirits flow freely and friends are easily made among the local populace.
