Utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water)
Back to top Back to main Skip to menuSlovakia - Utilities (Electricity, Gas, Water)
Most residential leases are not inclusive of utilities. Utilities are generally left in the name of the landlord under a lease agreement, and you are expected to pay the landlord monthly for usage when the bills arrive. Sometimes you may be asked to pay the bills yourself, in which case the most convenient method is by cash at a Postal Office.
It is possible to have the utilities changed into your own name and pay them directly each month, but in order to do so both parties (landlord and renter) must appear at the district office for each utility and sign an affidavit requesting the official change.
Foreigners applying to register a utility in their own name must provide their passport and proof of residency in addition to a signed residential lease agreement or proof of ownership of the premises. A deposit will be required.
