One of the greatest pleasures of living in Thailand is the fact that, notwithstanding it is a developing nation, it has excellent telephone, post, internet, TV and radio services!

Telephone

Following the liberalization of the telephone system in Thailand there are now a number of telephone companies whose service you can use (from TOT Plc - government entity shortly to be privatized, to TRUE, the latest private operator to start up operations). Because of the large number of service providers, and the inexpensive use (a standard rate call in Thailand is Baht 3, regardless of time spent on the phone), many homes in Thailand have 2 or more lines.

As well as having a superb fixed-line telephone service in Thailand, Thailand also has one of the best mobile phone networks in Asia. In this regard, it should be noted that almost all Thais have a mobile phone (especially in the developed areas).

Post

Thailand's postal service is a state run enterprise but is superb. You can also choose to use private services, but most elect not to just because of the high quality service they can get from the Government run operation.

Internet

Until recently Thailand only had dial-up Internet Service Providers; however, in the last year broadband has hit Thailand in a big way. Internet services in Thailand are cheap, but you should not expect to have the same connection speeds you are used to in the West.
