There are several excellent K-12 international schools to choose from in the Istanbul area.

The choices outside of Istanbul are generally limited to Turkish elementary, middle (orta) and high schools (lise') where the curricula are taught exclusively in Turkish.

Educational facilities exist on larger military bases but are limited to active-duty personnel and their dependents.

The Istanbul International Community School has two campuses, one along the Bosphorus near Bebek, and another in Hadimkoy, near the airport. Classes are taught in English and are 100% International Baccalaureate (not American). IICS is the only PK-12 international school in Istanbul fully authorized for all 3 IB programs. It is globally accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Established in 1911, it is one of the world's oldest international schools.

The British International School offers schooling from ages 2-1/2 through 18 years. Their classes are taught in English and are based on the English National Curriculum. BIS offers IGCSE and International Baccalaureate courses. BIS has four campuses in the Istanbul area.
