The United Arab Emirates continues to attract more expats every year and a wide range of cultural and recreational facilities has grown to cater for their needs.
Sports facilities, in particular, are excellent. Golf and watersports (diving, windsurfing, water-skiing, sailing, etc) are very popular with the expatriate community along with tennis, squash, rugby, cricket and many other sporting activities. Dubai boasts three championship standard golf courses and it is even possible to play on sand (at the Nad Al Sheba Club)!
Hiring 4x4 vehicles for trips into the desert is another popular pastime with expat families.
