Connecticut is the 5th state of the United States of America. It is ranked 48th on terms of area size and 29th in terms of population; this makes Connecticut one of the more densely populated states in the whole of the country (ranked 4th nationwide). Connecticut is located in the North eastern region of the country and is bordered by Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island. Connecticut is also one of the most prosperous states in the whole country. The state capital of Connecticut is Hartford, although the largest city is Bridgeport. Other major cities in the state include Stamford and Waterbury.

There are plenty of things to see and do Connecticut. There are many antique shops to be found and one can also visit the house of Mark Twain. This home is where he wrote many of his famous novels and is open to the public. There are art galleries and museums galore and something to suit all tastes.

Connecticut – Employment

The state of Connecticut has a large agricultural sector. The main products include tobacco, dairy products and shellfish. Experienced workers may find that there are some vacancies, although these may be seasonal. Manufacturing is another major sector of the Connecticut economy, producing transportation parts and equipment, particularly for the military. Other products include pharmaceuticals and chemical products. Those with experience in one of these fields may find that there are opportunities, although there is always competition for these vacancies.

There is a growing tourism sector in the state which is proving to be a major part of the Connecticut economy. Many expats move to the area with the idea of opening their own hotel and guest house. To do this you will need to obtain licenses from the state government and this can be a long process. Those who have experience in this area will find that there are opportunities for hotel management, but again, there is a great deal of competition for the vacancies.

Connecticut – Property

Bridgeport is a popular destination for expats and there are several good districts to choose from when deciding on a home. The district of Black Rock is located in the south west of the city and used to be a part of the town of Fairfield. It has two sections which are considered to be historic and there is a good mix of commercial and residential properties. The area is undergoing regeneration so many of the older buildings are being refurbished and converted. There are many apartments in the district and upmarket retailers and eateries are moving into the area. The district has all the amenities required for daily life, from a library to restaurants. Some areas are reasonably priced, although waterfront properties are a little more expensive.

Bridgeport in general is a good area to live in. It is a medium sized city, although in recent years the population has dipped somewhat. The cost of living is a little higher than the national average, but the schools in the area are good schools. The unemployment rate is also a little higher than the state average.

Stamford is another city that has proved to be popular with newcomers. The East Side of the city is a mainly residential area with a large number of single family homes. Parts of the district are due to be redeveloped to encourage new businesses into the area. The area is very reasonably priced and has all the amenities that families need for day to day life.

The Downtown district in Stamford is home to a number of major businesses as well as the university and there has been a great deal of residential property built there in recent years. It is a much sought after area and prices in certain parts of the district will reflect this, although there is also a great deal of affordable accommodation to rent, particularly as there is a high student population.

Springdale is another area of Stamford that is popular, mainly because it has the feel of a small town, but is located in the middle of a city. There are both older homes which are affordable and more exclusive developments, with the area having everything needed for daily life. There is a good schools system in the area and sports venues such as an ice rink and baseball fields.
